The battle for a £15,000 grand prize has begun.
Shaving giants Gillette have teamed up with eSports provider Gfinity to host a virtual footbal tournament.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 players can put their skills to the test and compete in the offline month-long tournement, with the best players representing their countries in the grand final at Gfinity Arena and Studios.
Each of the 24 participating countries will have their own qualifiers, and the winner of each will represent that nation at the grand final. And you don’t have to be a resident of the country you are representing.
Both companies are excited about the project, with the Gillette Brand Manager UK & Ireland Matt Thomas commenting: “We’re delighted to enter the world of eSports. Gillette has a long history of sporting partnerships and we see eSports as a natural evolution to this to ensure we stay relevant with young guys. The popularity of eSports is growing all the time and it’s exciting that we can support this growth through a tournament like this, giving both players and fans opportunities that only Gillette can offer.”
Meanwhile, Gfinity CEO Neville Upton said: “We’re delighted to partner with Gillette and welcome them into eSports. With such rich sporting heritage their move into eSports is a natural fit and we hope to establish a long and rewarding partnership with them.”
Finally, there’s an excuse to spend every waking hour playing with (virtual) balls, so dust off your controllers and get practicing. You can register to enter the tournement here: gfinity.net/gillette
