Taron Egerton of Kingsman fame will be portraying the singer in the upcoming biopic, Rocketman.

Rocketman will follow Sir Elton’s climb to international stardom following his emergence from the Royal Academy of Music. It will also explore the singer’s songwriting partnership with Bernie Taupin.

The movie is currently being directed by Dexter Fletcher, who replaced Bryan Singer as director of the Queen biopic following his firing. Lee Hill will direct the movie, and Kingsman director, Matthew Vaughn will be the producer with Marv Films. Vaughn is expected to be producing alongside Sir Elton and his Rocket Pictures partner David Furnish.

Marv Films are best known for producing the Kingsman and Kick-Ass series, Stardust and the unfortunate reboot of the Fantastic Four.

Variety has reported that Paramount Pictures are close to finalising a deal to distribute the movie, and production is expected to begin in the Summer.

This won’t be the first time that Sir Elton and Taron Egerton have been linked to the same project. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Sir Elton had an extended, sweary, cameo in the movie after being kidnapped by the main villain, Poppy Adams.
