A Kid Like Jake tells story of gender-nonconforming child – watch trailer

The first trailer for A Kid Like Jake has been released online.

A Kid Like Jake is the latest film from trans director Silas Howard, and tells the story of two parents (Jim Parsons, Claire Danes) who’s four-year-old son Jake (Leo James Davis) is more interested in princesses and fairytales than cars and action men.

While both parents initially have no problem with Jake’s gender-nonconforming behaviour, questions begin to arise when they’re advised that this could be the very thing that gives him an edge in New York City’s competitive private school system.

“How young is too young to put a label on a child’s identity? Is this just a phase, or is Jake truly transgender?” questions the film’s official synopsis.

And while both parents find themselves at a crossroads, with each having different opinions on how to handle the situation, they both know one thing: they want whatever’s best for Jake.

The film also stars Priyanka Chopra (Quantico, Baywatch); Amy Landecker (Transparent, Dan In Real Life); Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale, The Leftovers); and Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures, The Shape Of Water).
