Troye Sivan has performed a spoken word rendition of Sufjan Stevens’ Academy Award nominated track, Mystery of Love.
The Australian pop star recited his own version of the acclaimed folk song as part of Dazed’s Texts series.
Mystery of Love – taken from the critically lauded gay romance, Call Me By Your Name – was nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, losing out to Remember Me from Disney’s Coco.
Call Me By Your Name, however, made history with its win for Best Adapted Screenplay, making writer James Ivory the oldest ever Oscar winner.
Stevens’ also stunned an audience of stars with a haunting performance of the track, accompanied by a band of incredible musicians – St Vincent, Moses Sumney, Chris Thile, Casey Foubert and James McAlister.

During a recent interview with PopCrush, Sivan was asked if there were any recent roles that he wishes he could’ve played – and he revealed he would have “loved” to play Elio’s role in Call Me By Your Name.
“I think that it 100% was made for Timothée Chalamet, but I would have at least auditioned for Call Me By Your Name. That would’ve been fun to have a go at that. It was such a beautiful book and movie,” he said.
Like many gay men, Troye explains how watching the film was one of the few times he’s been able to see himself reflected on screen.
“I really feel like that was the first time, pretty much ever, that I’ve looked at a character and been like, ‘I 100% relate to that person’. Like every single thing, even down to his body type and the way that he looks.
“It’s so strange. I look at his body and I’m like, ‘That’s my body’. Like skinny, small little nipples, pale. Like everything down to the nipples, it’s me.”
Troye’s highly-anticipated sophomore effort – which is due for release later this year – follows 2015’s Blue Neighbourhood, which received critical acclaim upon release and spawned the hit singles Wild, Talk Me Down and Youth.
Two singles have been released from the as-of-now-untitled record so far – My My My and The Good Side – both of which have been well received by fans and critics.
Aside from Troye’s musical endeavours, he’s also been chosen as the face of Valentino’s spring menswear advertising campaign, and will star in upcoming gay ‘conversion therapy’ biopic Boy Erased, meaning 2018 really will be the year of Troye.
