VICIOUS

ITV have gone back to a classic formula for their latest show - a sitcom filmed in front of a live audience. So far, so standard, but when your leading cast members are sir Ian McKellen, Sir Derek Jacobi and the divine Frances de la Tour you're immediately taking it to a whole new level.

Vicious is absolutely hysterical. Originally called Vicious Old Queens (McKellen didn't like being called 'old'), it's the story of a gay couple who have been together for almost five decades. Played by life-long friends McKellen (Freddie) and Jacobi (Stuart), they live in a flat in Soho - with the curtains closed because they don't like the light - and are regularly visited by their friends and neighbours including de la Tour (Violet). When we catch up with the trio, Frances is trying to get to grips with a slightly high chair. "I feel like Judy Garland," she quips and Ian roars with laughter. "I might start singing..." Frances de la Tour sings Judy Garland? Surely the interview can't GET any gayer?
