October 09 - The Fashion Issue / JLS
People talk a lot of rubbish about fashion – most notably that there’s something shallow about taking care of yourself and looking good. You may not keep up with the more extreme style trends but being comfortable and confident in what we wear is important. Dressing well has been valued since the dawn of time – which is why “fashion” objects are sometimes all that survives of the earliest civilisations. We can’t compete with that, but we can offer you down-to-earth style advice to help you look good on the streets – for example don’t miss our guide to denim in this issue.
Fashion has always been set by famous people, which partly explains why this is one of the most celebrity-packed issues of GT to date with interviews with Megan Mullally (Karen from Will and Grace), Patrick Wolf, Julian Clary and many more. (There are more Fashion Goes Pop interviews if you click on the Magazine link above)
But despite what the photo below may suggest, I’m not quitting my new job as GT’s ed to become the fifth member of JLS quite yet. When I met the lads for their first fashion shoot and their first gay interview, I was expecting them to be stylish, sexy and a laugh. What surprised me was that they’ve also been the victims of anti-gay insults. You can read their brilliantly positive take on this as well as finding out about their love affairs and metrosexual clothes tastes starting on page 60.
To keep up with the latest trends ourselves, your magazine will be going through a complete makeover during the next month. I’m really looking forward to showing you the November issue so you can see the improvements. It’s out on 21 October, so put the date in your diary and make sure you pick it up.
