Editor's Letter

August 09 - Shirts Off

I hate pictures of myself. But I’m very pleased to be staring out at you from this screen for the first time. In my defence, I don’t usually look this rough but I was subtly femmed-up for the last ever Gay Shame – a celebration of femininity supported by GT. My “outfit” amounted to about £10 spent on accessories at H&M, others were far more impressive, as you will see inside.

The only thing better than dressing up is stripping off. A straw-poll of five randoms in our office revealed – shock! – that the best thing about summer is guys walking around with their shirts off. So we celebrated the heatwave by getting a few real-life hotties to show us what they’re made of for this month’s GT Eye. If there’s a deep message behind this gratuitous letch, it is surely that all sorts of men are sexy – black and white, hairy and smooth, from 20-something twinks to a moustached leather-man. It ain’t who you are, it’s what you do with it.
So it’s been a crazy month since I started as editor of GT. We are looking forward to improving the magazine, but as always it’s your views which matter the most, so please drop me a line to let me know what changes, if any, you would like.
Finally, you may have heard the news that Pink Paper, which I also edit, has had to stop its printed edition until the economy improves and is now focussing online. We’re uploading more gay news and culture faster than ever before at PinkPaper.com, so don’t feel it’s gone forever – visit us there and sign up to Xtra, our e-news service.
I’m really pleased and proud to be editor of your magazine and hope your month is as good as mine is sure to be.
