October 07 - The Sex Issue
Roll up, Roll up… roll over and take a deep breath – this might sting a little. Yes, it’s come around again, GT’s Sex issue. Welcome. Please slip into something more comfortable... and wait in my tent.
We’ve not so much written the magazine this month as drooled it onto the pages. We’ve been meeting rising Porn Stars, and the original porn star – the late Casey Donovan, whom we’ve got to know much more closely through a fascinating cache of letters he wrote to a lover in the late 60s/ 70s. We also talk to transsexual Warhol Superstar survivor Holly Woodlawn (Yes, of Walk on the Wild Side fame) and the editorial team have, quite literally, put their arses on the line in our in-house sex toy tests (p 82, but please don’t tell my Mother). Speaking of parental controls, The League of Gentleman’s Mark Gatiss tells us about his role in the new play All About My Mother, and also all about his mother.
I’m especially proud that the magazine has been spending time this month with Kenny Goss and his good friend Tracey Emin, who are in conversation about our favourite subject. It’s as candid as you might expect from the enfant terrible of the British art world and George Michael’s boyfriend.
Unbelievably too, we asked photographer Stuart Sandford to take photographs of his friends’ cumfaces. I was only half-serious, but, trooper that he is, he didn’t even ask if I was joking and recorded 18 ejaculatory gurns for us. Stuart’s the kind of friend we all need! Speaking photographically, you must go and have a look at our GT Eye section which is a series of documentary photos illustrating what happened to some lucky GT readers when they took their dirty washing to a Laundromat in LA for a good hard erm… cleaning.
This really is a hard job, but I guess someone has to do it.
Yours, always thinking of more increasingly inventive and messy ways of loving you.
