July 07 - The Music Issue

Rock-a-doodle-doo, and welcome to our Fantastic Music issue: a jam-packed hot 12-incher for you all. We have an exclusive interview with the fabulously indiscreet Mr George Michael, our all-time favourite, platinum-certified Super Star (p 64). And boy, once he opens his mouth, try turning off the tap. He’s been around forever and yet it’s only recently we’re getting any sense that we know him at all. What a pleasure it has been making his acquaintance – he’s a self-made, unapologetic, unashamed man who’s living life by his own rules. He may occasionally get tired in his car and not quite make it to the kerb for a little nap, but hey, no-one’s perfect.

Also, we talk to Pop pixie Marc Almond (p 87) about his cathartic new album, and explore the world of Queer Fanzines (p 83). We head to the States with our favourite homo-homey, QBoy, heading up America’s first-ever gay Hip Hop tour (p 77). The modern-day gay Wagner, Rufus Wainwright, and his great friend Justin “Kiki & Herb” Bond tell us how they met (p 90) and ex-Shakespeare’s Sister Marcella Detroit gives us her 10 Commandments (p 19). We were also delighted to have a long lunch with Judy Garland’s daughter Lorna Luft, who has opened her heart for In The Know (p 62).

Phew, as an office full of music fans, we’ve had extra fun assembling this issue. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together.

Wham! Bam! Thank you, Man.
