Gobble This: The Full English @ O Bar

Traditional British grub done proper!

One of the greatest things about living in London is that you can literally get food from every corner of the globe, pretty much all over the capital. That is, bizarrely, except British food.

'Traditional' British food is sometimes ridiculed, often by America, who gave the world deep fried sausages on sticks and some synthetic nonsense called Twinkies, which are, at best, edible bathroom sponges. Yet, if done right, there are few things more satisfying than a Great British fry up or a well-prepared meat, veg and ‘tayter dish. And if it's in the heart of London’s Soho, even better!

The Full English is the brainchild of renowned Soho homo magnet Michele Cremona, who, along with a couple of dedicated chefs, lovingly creates the dishes from scratch. Featuring all British ingredients largely brought in from small local farmers who hand rear their animals, the proof is in the taste and there are some truly delicious dishes on offer.

The breakfast is a steal at just a fiver, with dry cured bacon, free range egg, handmade sausages (that Michele tells us you won’t find anywhere else) and slow-roasted Kent vine tomato. We also had a gorgeous sticky toffee pudding, which is becoming rather legendary among the West End wendies, and we couldn’t stop devouring the amazing sausage rolls. You can also stick around for lunch (try the chicken pie - awesome!) or just stay for a cream tea. The staff are ridiculously friendly and we even spotted former GT cover star Duncan James and his Blue buddie Lee Ryan chowing down in there!

The pop up cafe is based in trendy drinkery The O Bar, which is transformed into a rural tea room every Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, with tea served up in delightfully chintzy teapots/teacups and the cutest china plates you’ll ever see!

Anyone who tells you that English food is awful, just direct them to The Full English. One of Michele's delicious home made sausages should stifle that blathering cake hole of theirs!

PS: Those stunning sausage rolls are supplied by the Sausage Roll Sanctuary and can be found at Herne Hill Market in London three Sundays a month.

The Full English is at O Bar, 83-85 Wardour St London, Greater London W1D 6QE.
