We’re digging out our dancing shoes for Klaus Nomi.

We’ve got something for you. It’s dance, it’s theatre. It’s enough to make a grown-up Billy Elliot cry. So, we’re popping the question: Do You Nomi?

Nomi? Klaus Nomi, people! If you need a few pointers, Nomi was part of the 80s New Wave tour de force, back when Princess Di was doing shoulderpads and Gaga was still learning her ABCs – mental. Nomi was more of an innovator, however, with a revolutionary voice and art form, before his untimely death as a result of AIDS aged 39. He dabbled in opera (with a bit of synthpop thrown in, as you do), to baroque, punk and alternative disco. His image was as radical as his sound. Nomi was into extreme costumes, daring make-up and all that jazz. It helped that he was loved by the masses (just like GT, really). All in all, Nomi was an imaginative trendsetter.

Alan Greig (choreographer extraordinaire) and Grant Smeaton (the boss behind all the razzmatazz) are taking his story to the stage in a theatre performance guaranteed to have you dusting off your dancing shoes. It’s all routines, movements and entertainment with - for the sake of catching your breath - some scenes told through text. It’s very avant-garde, darling! We can’t promise simplicity (or guarantee seats next to someone who doesn’t piss off to the toilet every ten minutes), but we can promise outrageousness, glamour and a fascinating insight into the life of an icon. Hopefully with a few hints of flesh along the way. Wink wink. If you don’t know Nomi, you will now.
