The honeymoon period is over...

New British ‘romedy’ premieres in London tonight.

Mix the romance from Love Actually with the post-marriage craziness of The Heartbreak Kid and you’re left with I Give It a Year.

I’m not saying that businesswoman Natalie (Rose Byrne), or aspiring novelist Josh (Rafe Spall), is crazy. They are in love with the idea of being in love, sparking a speedy marriage without truly knowing each other. Rose Bryne played the bitch in Bridesmaids (fun role) and Natalie wishes she was “always the bridesmaid and never the bride” after experiencing a dodgy dance routine from her hubby and partner in crime Danny at the reception. Doomed from the start...

Best man Danny is played by Stephen Merchant who often steals the screen, with a laugh out loud best man speech and some cringy one liners. Yes, the movie is hilarious. But what do you expect when the producers of Bridget Jones' Diary team up with the writers of Bruno?

The film centres around a marriage counselling session with a wacky and inappropriate-question-asking Olivia Colman (Peep Show). The pet hates, bad habits and general incompatibilities have lead them here: trying not to scratch that one year itch.

Reflecting upon the past 7 months we are introduced to Guy (Simon Baker) and Chloe (Anna Faris), two American characters who compliment the strong British line up. When Natalie's new client Guy makes persistent passes at her she struggles not to reciprocate.

From the supporting roles to the leading lovers they will have you in stitches with bad language aplenty. Sadly, though, the movie lacked Simon Baker topless. Missed a trick, there. That said, the film is worth a watch just to see Anna Faris’ cringy threesome and a middle aged woman describe how she'd “ruin Bieber”. Who wouldn’t?

And you’ve got to love a film whose script features gems like “quim”, “twat” and “I’m not calling you a whore. But I also am”. Perfect.

I Give It a Year is released to cinemas Feb 8 – check out the trailer below.
