Looks like nothing is impossible after all after, as last night saw James Arthur walk away with the title of series 9 X-Factor winner.
Within hours of his winners single release – a cover of Barbadian songstress Shontelle’s 2010 single Impossible – it had rocketed to the number one spot on iTunes beating out American heavyweights Will.i.am and pop princess Britney Spears collaboration Scream and Shout.
Scream and Shout, which was also released yesterday made its steady climb to the top spot with Britney herself even tweeting: "SOOO much love to all of our UK fans for supporting the song. Love you all.” It's the latest single from Will.i.am’s new album #WillPower had hit the top spot in 20 countries before the release date was finally pushed forward in the UK.
It now looks unlikely that spears will secure herself her first UK number one since Everytime back in 2004…yes 2004! It's more than likely a nice surprise for the newest X-Factor victor as viewing figures for the show fell by an estimate six million bringing them to their lowest since 2005. Reports today also seem to suggest that producers of the show are tearing up the format in terms of rebooting the show in an attempt to reboot ratings.
One thing is for sure, whoever is crowned top of the charts next Sunday, albeit Arthur or Spears it’s still an all Cowell race, his newest protégé and his colleague. Fingers crossed our girl can work her magic but if not we're sure there will be plenty of chances in the future to put her back where she belongs.
