RIP Joan Rivers

Remembering an icon...

On 28 August, Joan Rivers suffered a cardiac arrest during throat surgery in which doctors kept her sedated, and emitted her at Mount Sinai hospital. It was revealed on Tuesday by her daughter Melissa Rivers that she was on life support.

Last night, Melissa released the statement the world had been dreading: ‘It's with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully… surrounded by family and close friends." Melissa carried on to thank the doctors and nurses at Mount Sinai hospital for their ‘amazing care.’

Joan Rivers was known for her controversial opinions, comedic performances and in later life as co-host on E! show Fashion Police.

Joan’s comedic career spanned for almost 50 years, first staring as a guest on The Tonight Show, hosted by Johnny Carson. From there Rivers went on to launching a rival show called The Late Show, followed by her successful daytime show The Joan Rivers Show, for which she won a daytime Emmy in 1990.

As well as her comedic work, Joan Rivers was also a bestselling author to 12 memoir and comedy books, the last of which Diary of a Mad Diva was released earlier this year.

As well as her stand-up comedy and best-sellers, Rivers put her controversial opinions to use, critiquing celebrity outfits on TV show Fashion Police.

Joan Rivers is yet another legend who has passed away this year following Broadway legend Elaine Stritch and king of comedy Robin Williams.
