The Art of HIM Magazine
Pre-internet gay artist Zack in a rare London appearance
More from GT Books
Internationally recognised as Britain’s most provocative contemporary graphic artist and storyteller of homoerotic fantasies, Oliver Frey, also known as ‘Zack’, has been using his artistic side to create homoerotic imagery for four decades.
His raunchy hero Rogue prowled the pages of HIM Magazine in the seventies; while his exploits of Bike Boy were cover-featured in the American anthology Meatmen. And you might not realise it, but HIM is all part of the GT heritage.
In recent years a niche for illustrated erotic work has resurfaced and Frey has been (re-)discovered through comics compilations and paperback fiction from German publisher Bruno Gmünder. His latest lavish compendium, Zack: The Art, demonstrates the distinctive masculinity and sensuous physicality of his artistry which he has built his name on.
In a rare appearance at a London book retailer, Frey will talk about his life and work with Roger Kean, the former editor of HIM Magazine and author of the Zack novels published by Bruno Gmuender (Boys of Vice City, Boys of Disco City and December-published Boys of Two Cities).
The evening will be rounded off with book signings from both Frey and Kean.
The event will be held at Foyles Bookshop, 3rd Floor Gallery, 113-119 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0EB on Thursday, November 15, 2012 6pm for 6:30pm start.
Tickets are available online or on the door charged at £6.00.
