Stepping back into the limelight

Pop icons and addictive documentary stars Steps have compiled a Christmas album, kick-started a UK mini-tour and had time to launch a Guilty Pleasure perfume

Bouncing back in the latter part of 2011, Steps hit number one in the album chart with The Ultimate Collection, and have since remained calmly optimistic. With the release date of Light up the World looming (November 12), we are elated that Steps will be harmonizing us with some fresh new tracks to help celebrate an inevitably camp Christmas. The release date of their single of the same name back in October was a small insight in to a new approach to music.

No longer treating us with dress-up, techno pop-beats, doomed weddings and ostentatious dance routines on beaches, Steps instead strip music back to its core. With a novel accompaniment of a band, we are awarded with a far more pure, relaxed and appropriate sound. Shed from former cheesiness, Steps have established a more mature dynamic, with tones that may surprise you in songs new and old. (Still, the 90s digi-resonance wasn’t all that bad was it?)

Steps hopes to spread some yuletide joy in an intimate 6-date UK mini-tour kicking-off on November 30 at Plymouth Pavilion, and wrapping up December 5 at Wolves Civic, Wolverhampton. This will be their way of reuniting with their fans (with an extension of many whom appear to have crawled out of the woodwork) and to evince a melodic clean slate.

Here’s to the next, Steps.
