Charli XCX debuts video for You’re The One
The hit SoundCloud track gets a video
First heard and listened to 50000 times on music site SoundCloud, Chali XCX has released a video for popular single You’re The One. Now signed to Asylum Records, Charli XCX is using the song as her debut single (despite knocking around tracks online for YONKS). This success lead to her mix tape Heartbreaks and Earthquakes being downloaded 7000, so it clear she already has a committed following.
Recently returned from supporting band Santigold in the USA, Charli’s first video is a treat for the eyes as well as the ears. Sporting a pair of huge platform shoes and strutting her usual energetic stuff, all in a front a giant XCX, shows the attitude that this girl’s music has. Her style is a cross between Marina and the Diamond and Cher Lloyd, with added ingredients: grit and fierceness. You wouldn’t want to mess with her stomping around in those shoes.
The English born singer worked with Dawn Shadforth, who directed the video, and has previously worked with Florence + The Machine, Scissor Sisters and Björk. Charli said about the video: ‘I think it’s a great pop video that looks cool and means something and that's just what I wanted’. And we couldn’t agree more. With plenty of spotlights flashing in a warehouse, and many memorable images - check out girls wearing miners’ headlamps - this is a great debut for Charli. We are certain this young lady (born Charli Aitchison) has a bright future ahead of her. And what better place to continue this? Supporting Coldplay during the USA and Canada leg of their tour. A bright future indeed.
The single is due for release 13 August.
