Top of the Pops meets Live Aid

I got love for you if you were born in the 80s, the 80s...


It’s time to go back into the closet and dig out those oversized shirts and parachute pants as the ultimate 80s tribute concert is currently touring the UK. If you were an 80s child or if you’re like us, too young to remember the originals (wink wink) but still enjoy a camp classic then this show will blow your leg warmers off.



Taking us back in time is on screen host Mike Read, that one from the radio who did a stint in jungle on I’m a Celeb. During the 80s Mike hosted Top of the Pops so it’s good to know that our compere knows his Madness from his Madonna. He also transforms himself into the late Sir Jimmy Savile and Sir Bob Geldof who both feature on the screens.

The show features 35 smash hits performed by tributes to legends such as Erasure, Wham! Bananarama, The Human League, Kim Wilde, Culture Club, Dead or Alive, Cyndi Lauper to name but a few. This sounds camper than a box set of Glee. Joining the authentically recreated stars are Top of the Pops’ resident 80s dance troupe Legs & Co and there’s also a laser and light show thrown in there too. During the interval Mike Read is the DJ voice of "Fictitious Radio Station" which is played into the venue so the crowd can polish up on their electric slides and moon walks.

The show has proven to be a success going into its fourth year and with hit upon hit and 150 costume changes we can’t think of a better excuse to don our shoulder pads, big hair and neon and go for a boogie to a bit of Kids In America and Venus. Because gays just wanna have funnn...
