An Absolutely Stella evening
Edina Monsoon stops traffic. Literally.
More from GTea Break
God, Stella McCartney knows how to throw a party darling.
Traffic stopped last night as guests at her London store piled out onto the pavements to watch life imitate art as Edina Monsoon (of Monsoon PR) partook in the annual tradition of turning on the fabulous Christmas light display.
And not just any old guests sweetie. Bob Geldof, Kelly Holmes, Chris Evans, Sharleen Spiteri, Mariella Frostrup, Kate Moss, Richard E Grant, Alexa Chung, Nick Grimshaw, Pam Hogg… names, names, names darling!
The champagne flowed, the Christmas canapés did the rounds and Jennifer Saunders, in character as Edina throughout, gave a speech before introducing her ‘client’ Emma Bunton. And yes, we filmed the whole thing for you, faithful reader. Bear with us, we sorted out the focus in the end. We were lucky enough to be squeezed right up front, behind Stella herself and her dad Paul. Sorry that we touched your bum a couple of times Paul, it really was an accident.
We went along with the ever-delightful Helen Lederer, who’s interviewed the cast of Absolutely Fabulous for the new issue of GT which you simply MUST READ sweetie. (It even features an Ab Fab board game for Christmas!)
It’s 20 years (next year) since the series first started and the cast has reunited to film three special episodes. The first will be shown on Christmas Day, the second is rumoured to be showing on New Years Day while the third will be aired during the Olympics in 2012 (which might give you a clue as to what that particular episode is about).
Reluctantly leaving the mince pies and gingerbread behind, we swanned off to BAFTA to watch a very special screening of all three episodes with the cast and crew (with Jennifer having got out of her Stella McCartney clothes and Edina wig) and joining co-stars June Whitfield, Jane Horrocks, Christopher Malcolm, Ruby Wax, Llewella Gideon and, of course, Helen and Emma.
No, of course we’re not going to spoil anything. But fans are going to LOVE them. Obviously. And watch out for the return of THAT nurse.
The first episode sees Edina welcoming someone back into her life (while Patsy also has someone returning that she’d rather not see again), the second stars Lindsay Duncan in a brilliant, brilliant role as Edina’s new client (that she’s only taken on to impress Saffy) and the third is the afore-mentioned Olympics themed installment.
Twenty years of Ab Fab, three special episodes and we still want more!
