Maison Martin Margiela

Fashion + Champagne = Christmas Wishlist Sorted

Usually we spend our evenings in the pub, but last night - in the name of fashion - we headed down to the London branch of Maison Martin Margiela - it may be hard to pronounce, but is worth the effort.

A Belgian designer who once worked for Gaultier and later became the designer of Hermes' women's line, we knew it would be good, but not *WHITE HOT*. Several glasses of champagne later (Us? Drink?) and we were well-lubed for trying on some staple autumn/winter highlights, which – essentially – meant everything in the store.

Our favourite item was a navy blue trench coat which retailed at, err, £900 - one that New York socialite and all-round-good-fashion-egg, Joey Arias (we think it was him, but can't be sure and didn't bother to check), said I looked "perfect" in. No, really. We also loved, loved, loved Margiela's pinch-chested black suit jacket and black patent-leather trainers. As if that wasn't enough, they also stock really sexy (and surprisingly affordable) men's accessories that were simple and gentlemanly, without being queeny, which - yes - means that Liberace look is OVER.

Sadly, as for us, we'll have to resort to Ebay seconds, but for those of you with serious money - you know where to go.
