Go baby go baby go - Don't upset Meleka
Warning: This blog contains a reference to 'funky house'
There was a time (about a month ago) when the UK charts were full of overproduced crap from the U.S of A. Well the tide is finally turning, and we’ve found the latest bright young thing who’s hoping to make a splash on home shores.
More from Intern
21-year-old Meleka got her first big break last year, when she won Hugo Urban Rules - a slightly cooler, untelevised version of the X-Factor in which contestants roll up in their thousands to impress a team of music industry execs. And Sabrina from Mis-Teeq.
A year later, and the North-West Londoner is ready to make a big impression on the charts with her funky house anthem Go. Don’t let the words “funky house” put you off though - Meleka is a singer/songwriter, so it’s all ok. The newcomer also gains some extra kudos for her big-name collaboration with Kelis and Chipmunk on the title-track of Basement Jaxx’s new album, Scars - which is being tipped as a future single (and potential chart topper). The super-busy diva has even found time to feature on the new Don E single alongside one of the many former Sugababes, the lovely Mutya Buena. Does this girl ever stop?
Luckily, it appears that she doesn’t - and that’s great, because otherwise we wouldn’t have the Crazy Cousinz-produced “dance anthem” Go. A definate grower, the track comes with remixes from the likes of Booda Bassline and a video directed by Ben Jones, a hot new talent who’s worked with the likes of Lily Allen and The Streets.
Meleka is definitely one to keep an eye on, and we’re expecting big things from her. After all, if Sabrina from Mis-Teeq says she’s going to be huge, it’d take a foolish man to disagree.
Here's the pap-tastic video, proving that if nothing else, she's big in Angel / Essex Road.
Go is out October 26th on Defenders Entertainment Ltd. meleka.co.uk
