New Channel 5 Show features relocating gays
Campsite. Hair Salon…. Outer Hebrides?
More from Intern
After filming a gay couple for over a year, Channel 5 have come up with the show 'Build A New Life in The Country', one episode following Harvey and his partner John on their relocation from the hustle and bustle of Leeds to the quieter island of the Outer Hebrides.
We had a quick chat with Harvey, who describes their new life, it's 'never been so busy'. Channel 5 follow their attempts to turn a run-down croft on the Isle of Harris into a campsite. Whereas most couples would seek a slower pace of life in the country, the show illustrates a very active life for the couple battling fraught financial times, design complications and legal wrangles in order to open the campsite.
Despite complications, the couple insist they had fun on camera and their dynamic personalities will be sure to make this television gold. Describing the campsite as “quirky”, the couple offer on-site baked bread, fresh eggs campers can collect from the free-range chickens and a friendly environment, it is no wonder they are gaining a fantastic response already. With plans to convert a 180 year old cattle shed or 'byre' into a sauna aswell as Harvey's own successful hair salon “Hairbrades”, the Outer Hebrides have suddenly become far more glamorous.
Build A New Life in The Country is shown on Channel 5 Wednesday 22nd July 8pm
