Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence: London House of Common Sluts
They're lending a hand to the IDAHO silent revolution
More from Bob Henderson
Here's the deal. This Sunday, 17th May there will be the A Day In Hand project, as part of the International Day Against Homophobia & Transphobia (aka IDAHO. We do love a mouthy acronym, don't we?). Which is same-sex hand holding, with cameras.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence will be there, and we quote Sister. Dire-Reaahh of the Holy Imodium, "In both the darkest and happiest of times, sharing love with another person can bring hope, joy and a sense of solidarity regardless of who or what we may be. So, it's fitting that A Day In Hand should have had such a powerful effect within and beyond the queer community. Clearly, this act of public unionship tells us that our message has not changed in the face of people and places changing."
FYI, The Sisters are an international collective order of ‘nuns’ whose message is one of tolerance, and of raising awareness. They also actively promote acceptance of homosexuality in the fight against ignorance. They're not the only ones as celebrity activists Cleve Jones (Harvey Milk’s aide), Brian Paddick and Peter Tatchell are all involved. Which one do you want to hold hands with? Mind you, better wash 'em first, there's a lot of swine flu paranoia going round...
A Day In Hand is being held at XXL Club, from 2-4pm and it's free.
