Chococo Ho Ho
As you can imagine, at Christmas we’re bombarded by companies wanting their goodies to appear in GT and in the blogs, and this season it has been raining chocolate. Not that I’m complaining. Being a bit of a choc-hog, I’ve been sampling as much as an overactive sweet tooth and sugar tolerance will allow.
And two products in particular have been ticking all the boxes. The ever-excellent Paul A Young has been cooking up some amazing new flavours and selections at his Islington kitchen. After last year’s Marmite and dark chocolate creation, this Christmas has been the season of the Cranberry and Pecan 1kg bar, and 70% dark Christmas spices bar.
If, however, you’re not likely to be anywhere near either of his boutique branches (London, Islington: 33 Camden Passage, N1, 020 7424 7570; Bank: 20 Royal Exchange, Threadneedle St, EC3V), then the next very best thing is the mail order service offered by the equally excellent Chococo.
We love Chococo (see last year's blog - can't keep us away). Their fresh seasonal chocolates come in three sizes; medium (16 chocolates), large (25 chocolates) and a cascade of three boxes tied with a ribbon (50 chocolates). They all contain Chococo’s fresh, hand-crafted chocolates and truffles, and fresh Dorset cream blended with Venezuelan chocolate & vanilla, raspberry, marc de Champagne and cardamom & pistachio truffles. Special seasonal chocolates include cinnamon, gingerbread, nutmeg, orange, whisky and, of course, a Christmas pudding with rum-sozzled Fairtrade raisins and spice. Of all the mail-order selections we’ve tried, these were by far the best.
The Chococo Festive Selection Box (pictured) – Medium £17.95, Large £23.95, Cascade £41.50. Prices include p&p and gift card.
