Channel 4 have confirmed Rufus Hound will join the cast of Russell T Davies' new series Cucumber.

Rufus will play Rupert, a man in hot pursuit of the show's lead character Henry (Vincent Franklin). The pair go on a date, with the night set to end in an unexpected way...

Also joining the cast of Cucumber is Ardal O'Hanlon, best-known for Father Ted and London Irish, and Adjoa Andoh, best-known for roles in Law and Order: UK and Doctor Who.

Ardal will play Brian, who goes on a date with Cleo only to find the evening unravelling into old secrets and long-buried truths, while Andoh joins as Lance's sister Marie – a strong, outspoken professional who thinks her brother's boyfriend just isn't good enough for him.

BAFTA-nominated Luke Newberry, best-known from In the Flesh and Lightfields, will also be joining the cast of Banana as Josh, a young law student who finds the past hard to escape when he has to go home and face his old friend from school.

Cucumber and its e4 counterpart Banana has been written by multi-BAFTA winning writer Russell, best-known for his seminal, ground-breaking gay drama Queer as Folk.

Following the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life, Cucmber tells the story of 46-year-old Henry and his boyfriend Lance, (Cyril Nri) whose comfortable existence is shattered by a date ending in threesomes and police cars!
