LISTEN: Brand new track from Bright Light Bright Light and Elton John

The best of Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, Scissor Sisters, and of course Elton John, all in one track...

He's always been a favourite of ours here at GT, and now you can kick off your weekend with a new synth pop track we've fallen in love with – I Wish We Were Leaving by the devilishly handsome Bright Light Bright Light.

Not only that, though, he's only gone and roped in ruddy Elton John for the track – equal parts sorrowful, yet optimistic.

"It's about accepting your relationship with someone you care about – friends or lovers," says Bright Light, AKA Rod Thomas.

"Sometimes you end up wishing for more than they’re able to give – so it’s better to be honest about what your actual relationship is and enjoy it for what it is."

The collaboration came about after Sir Elton called up out of the blue to show profess his love for Bright Light's debut solo album Make Me Believe in Hope, back in 2012.

“From then I kept hearing his voice on the track," Rod adds. "In time I played him I Wish We Were Leaving and he added his vocals.

"Although it wasn't written as a duet, I love that his voice taking lead in the second verse is a reminder that every relationship has two sides and two voices.”

I Wish We Were Leaving features on an EP of the same name, released 7 April. It'll also feature on Bright Light Bright Light's forthcoming second album Life Is Easy, expected July 2014.
