We are a Liverpool based theatre company producing a brand new production of 'Hedwig and The Angry Inch' at The Kazimier from May 26th until June 5th.
This groundbreaking off-broadway smash, with it’s central metaphor inspired by Plato’s Symposium tells the story of “internationally ignored song stylist” Hedwig Schmidt, rock & roll Goddess and victim of a gruesomely botched sex-change operation. The unique and outrageous story is performed by Hedwig (né Hansel)in the form of a rock gig backed by her band “The Angry Inch”. It begins in East Berlin when Hansel meets Luther, an American GI who promises to take the young man back to the States on the condition that he change his sex and become Hedwig. She ends up alone in a trailer park in Kansas where she meets geeeky Tommy Speck, whom she reinvents as Tommy Gnosis. He goes on to rock star fame and fortune and she is cast aside again.
This tragic tale of abject love, loneliness, gender confusion and the Platonic notion that sex is the effort to reconnect two halves of one ideal being is presented in a new production by Lodestar Theatre Company made specifically for the Kazimier – an old night club on Liverpool’s Wolstenholme Square.
Also on the bill are shameless burlesque dancers Jessica and the Rabbits and other acts to be announced and we hope to keep the party going after the show with sets from some of Liverpool’s best DJs
Shows at 7.30pm 26th May – 5th June except Sunday
